About ISC 2028

A first for Africa

The XXI International Silage Conference comes to Abuja — the first time the event has been held in Africa since it began in Edinburgh in 1970.

The ISC is the premier global platform for scientists, technicians, entrepreneurs and policymakers in the silage and livestock industry to exchange knowledge, innovation and technology.

Nigeria is at a pivotal moment in its livestock development, with a new Ministry of Livestock Development and a national focus on feed scarcity and nutrition through better forage conservation.

Since 1970

Fifty years of silage science

The first International Silage Conference was held in Edinburgh in 1970 with 35 participants, all from the United Kingdom. It was a seminar — discussion of current and future research, with no abstracts or papers. It has run every two or three years since, across different countries and continents.

  • 1970Edinburgh, Scotland — 35 participants
  • 2018Bonn, Germany — XVIII ISC
  • 2028Abuja, Nigeria — first in Africa
